Doubles, Routliffe and Zimmermann win

New Zealander Erin Routliffe and Belgian Kimberley Zimmermann are the champions of the doubles tournament of the 32 Palermo Ladies Open. Seeded duo No. 4 of the draw she managed to get the better of the Russians Natela Dzalamidze and Kamilla Rakhimova with the score of 7-6(5) 4-6 10-4 after one hour and 58 minutes of play. For Routliffe and Zimmermann, who succeed Arantxa Rus and Tamara Zidansek in the roll of honor, this is the first WTA title on the circuit.

A particularly tight match, with Routliffe and Zimmermann winning the first set after canceling a set point for the Russian couple at 6-5. In the second set, the match seems to be going downhill, but Dzalamidze and Rakhimova manage to win five consecutive games, closing with a 6-4 run. At the super tie break, however, Routliffe and Zimmermann manage to triumph with a clear 10-4.

“We are very happy – explained the two winning tennis players at the end of the match – we thank all those who organized this event. Thanks also to the kindness of the people who have welcomed us in these days. We hope to see you again next year."
